The witty British designer uses this vast new store in New York City's SoHo, above, to evoke the spirit of neighborhood galleriesparticularly the Pace Gallery, a onetime occupant of the same space. In keeping with the theme, artist Richard Woods has created a wall that blocks the interior from the street. Rooms are filled with reclaimed floors and oak shelves. The feeling is more intimate than most retail emporiums, although Smith has stocked the place with clothing and accessories for both men and women, in addition to vintage books and favorite curios.
